Wizkid Joins Spotify’s Billion-Stream Club with ‘Made In Lagos’

Global Afrobeats icon Wizkid has achieved yet another career milestone, as his critically acclaimed album Made In Lagos has officially surpassed 1 billion streams on Spotify.

The record-breaking feat places Made In Lagos among an elite group of Nigerian albums to cross the billion-stream mark, joining Rema’s Rave & Roses, Burna Boy’s Love, Damini, Ayra Starr’s The Year I Turned 21, and Omah Lay’s Boy Alone.

Released in October 2020, and followed by a deluxe edition in August 2021, Made In Lagos soared globally, powered by the massive success of “Essence” featuring Tems. The track, later remixed with Justin Bieber, became a cultural phenomenon, collectively amassing over 400 million streams on Spotify alone and helping catapult Afrobeats to new international heights.

Featuring a stellar lineup of guest artists including Burna Boy, Damian Marley, H.E.R., Skepta, BNXN, Tay Iwar, and Tems, the album delivered a genre-bending fusion of Afrobeats, R&B, and global pop, earning both critical praise and commercial dominance.

The album not only garnered multiple awards and certifications, but it also played a pivotal role in shaping the global perception of Nigerian music. It remains one of the most celebrated Nigerian albums of the 21st century.

With this latest milestone, Wizkid continues to solidify his legacy as one of Africa’s most influential musical exports. Since Made In Lagos, he has released More Love, Less Ego, the Soundman Vol. 2 EP, and most recently, his sixth studio album, Morayo.

One billion streams later, Made In Lagos isn’t just a streaming triumph, it’s a cultural moment that reshaped the global soundscape.
