Wizkid Extends Record as the Most Certified African Artist in U.S. History

Afrobeats superstar Wizkid has officially extended his reign as the highest-certified African artist in the United States across all credits, according to the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).

With over 21 million certified units spanning singles, albums, and features, the Nigerian icon continues to cement his place as one of the most influential African acts of all time.

Among his standout achievements:

  • “One Dance” (with Drake & Kyla) – 11× Platinum
  • “Essence” (featuring Tems) – 5× Platinum
  • “Come Closer” (featuring Drake) – 1× Platinum

These certifications reflect both Wizkid’s global appeal and his undeniable contribution to the international spread of Afrobeats. “One Dance,” released in 2016, became a global smash and introduced millions of listeners to his unique sound. Meanwhile, “Essence” became a cultural phenomenon in 2021, praised as the “song of the summer” and hailed for ushering Afrobeats into the mainstream American music scene.

Wizkid’s achievement is not only a personal triumph but also a testament to how far African music has come on the global stage. His continued success highlights the power of collaboration, genre fluidity, and staying true to one’s roots.

As fans celebrate this historic milestone, one thing remains clear, Wizkid isn’t done yet. With more music and groundbreaking moments to come, the Starboy continues to raise the bar for African artists around the world.
