Why BBNaija Contestants Find it Hard to Succeed in Music: Efe Money Weighs In

Efe Money

Efe Money, the 2017 winner of Big Brother Naija, has shared his thoughts on why musicians who have appeared on the show have struggled to achieve success in the music industry. In a recent interview with Trending on Hip TV, Efe explained that the audience for the reality show is vastly different from those who regularly consume music, which has hindered former housemates who are musicians from building a loyal fan base.

According to Efe, the reality TV audience is primarily interested in the drama, lifestyle, and personalities of the contestants, rather than their musical talents. He noted that these viewers are “passive consumers of music” who enjoy the entertainment and spectacle of the show, but do not necessarily seek out music as a primary form of entertainment.

On the other hand, Efe stated that active music consumers are a different demographic altogether. They are passionate about music and actively seek out new artists and sounds. However, these fans may not necessarily be tuning in to reality TV shows like Big Brother Naija, which can make it difficult for musicians who appear on the show to connect with their target audience.

Efe also pointed out that when musicians appear on reality TV, they are often seen for their drama, fashion sense, and relationships, rather than their music. This can lead to a misconception among viewers that these musicians are more focused on their celebrity status than their craft, which can be detrimental to their music careers.

Some of the musicians who have appeared on the show in recent years include Laycon and Whitemoney, who won the 2020 and 2021 shows respectively. While Laycon has enjoyed some success in music, Whitemoney has failed to attract a significant listener base. Other artists who have appeared on the show include Bryann, Vee, Uriel, Avala, Groovymono, and Soma.

The 9th edition of Big Brother Naija is expected to take place later this year, and it’s likely that a musician will be among the participants. However, based on Efe’s insights, it remains to be seen whether these musicians will be able to successfully transition from reality TV to a music career.
