Nigerian music star Kingsley Chinweike Okonkwo, better known as Kcee, has fired back at highlife musician Flavour after Flavour’s recent subtle shade, where he suggested someone was copying his unique musical style. Although Flavour didn’t specify anyone, fans speculated the comment was aimed at Kcee, who has recently embraced Igbo cultural and highlife sounds in his music.
“Bro, we are not on the same level. Pick your battles carefully,” Kcee wrote on X (formerly Twitter), addressing the situation head-on.
Kcee’s response went further, cautioning Flavour against trying to monopolize Igbo cultural music. He reminded him that he was active in the industry before Flavour and has every right to explore and celebrate their shared heritage.
“Stop trying to gatekeep Igbo culture. You’re not a custodian,” Kcee continued, adding, “My music celebrates our heritage, and I won’t apologize.”
Kcee wrapped up his post with a final jab, calling for mutual success rather than competition and reminding fans of his commitment to creating music that resonates with cultural authenticity.
