Afrobeats star Peter Okoye, also known as Mr. P, has publicly declared that he has cut ties with his brothers, Paul Okoye and Jude Okoye, stating, “We are no longer family.”
The former member of the iconic duo P-Square made the revelation in a series of emotional posts on X (formerly Twitter), while reacting to the ongoing money laundering case involving his elder brother and former manager, Jude Okoye.
Peter, who is serving as a prosecution witness in the case, accused Jude’s publicist of trying to mislead the public by claiming he had been dishonest during court proceedings. In his defense, Mr. P emphasized that “family doesn’t steal from family,” suggesting that the betrayal he experienced ran deeper than a legal matter.
“One thing is for sure: the truth shall prevail,” he wrote. “Family does not steal from family.”
His post sparked reactions from fans, including one who urged him to remember the importance of family, even in times of conflict. Peter’s response was firm and deeply personal:
“We are no longer family at this point. Family is blood-related, but the real family is loyalty. I stayed silent for over 20 years, and it almost cost me everything.”
The singer went on to say that he now prioritizes his mental health over maintaining appearances or peace with toxic family dynamics.
“Love doesn’t manipulate. Loyalty doesn’t betray. Family that steals and breaks you isn’t family at all,” he continued.
“Real family doesn’t drain you, shame you, discriminate against you, or ignore your pain. My sanity matters. My mental health is a priority. If it costs my mental health, then it’s too expensive. I disown them.”
Peter also reflected on how the tragic story of late singer Mohbad influenced his decision to stop “playing the bigger person.” He revealed that trying to maintain peace for the sake of maturity had only led to further harm.
“After watching everything about Mohbad’s death and how the whole thing played out to date, I decided that I would never again play the bigger person,” he stated.
“So love me or hate me, I will continue speaking my truth.”
The latest fallout adds another chapter to the long-running feud within the Okoye family, which has seen multiple public splits and reconciliations over the years. For now, however, Peter Okoye is making it clear, he’s choosing healing over harmony.
