Kylian Mbappé’s long-running feud with Paris Saint-Germain has just erupted into an even more explosive legal showdown — one involving serious criminal allegations and billions of naira in unpaid wages.
Legal War Reloaded: Mbappé vs PSG
The French superstar, now officially a Real Madrid player, has filed a criminal complaint in Paris against a PSG official, accusing them of extortion and moral harassment. At the heart of the claim? The controversial “loft” treatment Mbappé received during the summer of 2023.
If you recall, Mbappé was demoted to train with PSG’s fringe squad — nicknamed “the loft” — after refusing to extend his contract. His legal team now argues that this move was coercive and unlawful, aimed at forcing him to sign a new deal he never wanted. French labor union UNFP has previously slammed such tactics as “illegal pressure.”
Two French investigating judges have already been appointed to examine whether the treatment qualifies as criminal misconduct.
Operation “Pay Me My Money”: €55M Wage Battle Heats Up
But that’s not all.
Mbappé’s legal offensive doesn’t stop with criminal court. He’s also suing PSG for up to €55 million (₦97 billion) in unpaid wages and bonuses — including salary arrears for April, May, and June 2024, plus loyalty and signing bonuses from previous seasons.
In a bold move, a Paris court froze up to €55 million in PSG’s bank accounts in April 2025 ahead of a hearing held on May 26. Mbappé’s legal team even alerted UEFA and the French sports minister, warning that PSG might lose its Champions League license if found guilty of salary breaches.
PSG Hits Back: “There Was a Verbal Agreement”
PSG hasn’t taken this lying down. The Ligue 1 champions insist that Mbappé verbally agreed to forgo some of the money in exchange for being reinstated in the first team during the 2023–24 season.
In response to the court order, the club has filed an appeal and is even counter-suing Mbappé for €98–109 million, claiming his actions have caused financial damage to the club.
A Battle That Could Redefine Player-Club Power Dynamics
This legal saga is more than just a wage battle — it could have long-lasting implications on how clubs handle player contracts, negotiations, and dressing-room politics.
From loft-room isolation to frozen bank accounts and looming Champions League consequences, Mbappé’s war with PSG is far from over. And as both sides dig in, football fans, legal experts, and club owners around the world are watching closely.
One thing’s clear: Kylian Mbappé has left PSG — but the drama didn’t stay behind.
