Nollywood actor Timini Egbuson has sparked conversation online after criticizing Nigerian musicians for not showing enough support for the film industry.
Timini, whose latest film Reel Love is currently in cinemas, took to X (formerly Twitter) to express his frustration, pointing out that while Nollywood actors actively promote Nigerian music, the same level of support isn’t reciprocated.
“Really wish musicians supported Nollywood the way we support their music, but that’s a conversation for another day,” he wrote.

His statement quickly gained traction, igniting debates on social media about the relationship between Nigeria’s entertainment industries. Some agreed with his stance, while others argued that Nollywood also falls short in supporting the music scene.
Despite the controversy, Reel Love is off to a record-breaking start at the box office. The romantic drama grossed ₦40.5 million on its opening day, making it the second-highest Nollywood debut ever—only behind Funke Akindele’s Everybody Loves Jenifa, which earned ₦46.3 million on its first day.
The film, which follows the love story between a social media influencer and an entrepreneur, is Timini’s first project as an executive producer. Directed by Kayode Kasum and written by Ife Olujuyigbe, Reel Love has captured audiences with its relatable romance and strong performances.
With its strong opening numbers, the movie is expected to continue its impressive box office run, fueled by Valentine’s Day buzz and word-of-mouth promotion.
