Nigeria’s prestigious music awards, The Headies, is set to hold its 17th edition on April 5, 2025, in Lagos, Nigeria.
The announcement was made by the Headies’ Executive Producer, Mr. Ayo Animashaun, in a statement released on Monday, January 20. He revealed that this year’s event will feature a week-long celebration showcasing the growth and creativity of the Nigerian music industry.
The festivities will commence on March 29, 2025, with a Stakeholders Brunch and a nominees’ party, leading up to the grand awards ceremony on April 5. A significant highlight this year is the debut of The Headies Festival, designed to celebrate the vibrant diversity of Nigerian music, entertainment, and culture.
Details such as the nomination list, host, and venue are yet to be disclosed. It’s also uncertain whether the awards will stick to the initial nomination window of April 1, 2023, to July 31, 2024.
After hosting its 16th edition in Atlanta, USA, The Headies is making a much-anticipated return to Nigeria. The move back home is expected to reignite excitement among fans and industry stakeholders. Animashaun previously cited planning costs as the reason for the ceremony’s temporary relocation.
