Tems accumulated an impressive 8 million streams on Spotify on June 7, 2024, setting a new record for a Nigerian female artist. Her debut album also secured her the second spot for the most streams on the first day, with 5.33 million global streams, just behind Ayra Starr’s “The Year I Turned 21.”
Tems’ contribution to Wizkid’s hit song “Essence” in 2021 catapulted her to international fame, making her one of the fastest-rising artists worldwide. Her debut album, “Born In The Wild,” features 18 tracks, including collaborations with Asake and J Cole.
Before the album’s release, Tems dropped two singles, “Me & U” and “Love Me Jeje,” which have garnered over 99 million and 32 million streams, respectively. This success solidifies her status as a rising star, and her debut album is expected to be a commercial success.
Tems has made her mark in the Nigerian music industry, becoming the first female artist from Nigeria to win a Grammy Award in 2022 for Best Melodic Rap Performance. She was also the first Nigerian artist to be nominated for an Oscar award for her contribution to the soundtrack of Marvel’s “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.”
