Sons of Onyeka Onwenu Finally Speaks Out After Her Passing.

The sons of the late iconic singer Onyeka Onwenu, Abraham and Tijani Ogunlende, have shared their grief and gratitude following her passing on Tuesday, July 30, 2024.

In a heartfelt statement released on Wednesday, they recounted the events leading to her demise and acknowledged the support they received during this difficult time.

“It is with heavy hearts that my brother and I announce the passing of our beloved mother, Onyeka Onwenu. She passed away last night, Tuesday, July 30, 2024, in Lagos, Nigeria. She was rushed to the hospital after an amazing last performance, where doctors made every effort to save her life… sadly she passed.”

They highlighted the profound impact Onyeka Onwenu had on numerous lives through her multifaceted career in music, acting, philanthropy, and humanitarian work.

“Onyeka Onwenu was a national treasure, an icon and legend, who inspired multiple generations of Nigerians and people around the world. She is greatly loved and missed.”

The statement also expressed their appreciation for the support from prominent figures and institutions.

“We extend our thanks to those who were with her in her final moments and the general public for their concern and support. Specifically, we are deeply grateful to Mr. Peter Obi, Mr. and Mrs. John Momoh, Mr. and Mrs. Okonkwo, as well as Messrs Ajayi and Mr. Okpara. Governor Alex Otti joined to condole us soon after her passage. We are also appreciative of Reddington Hospital and all their staff for their efforts.”

As they navigate this challenging time, Abraham and Tijani urged everyone to remember their mother’s remarkable life and her significant contributions to society.

“As we take the time to make the necessary plans, we would like you all to take the time to remember her life, the contributions she made, and the impact she had on so many lives, including ours.”
