Nigerian singer Skales is riding the wave of a massive resurgence, and he’s doing it with a tribute to one of football’s brightest rising stars, Lamine Yamal.

Following the viral rebirth of his 2014 hit ‘Shake Body’ on TikTok, Skales has announced a brand-new single titled ‘Dance Like Lamine Yamal’, inspired by the Barcelona teenage sensation whose TikTok moves helped ignite the song’s renewed popularity.

Skales recently hit 1 million monthly listeners on Spotify for the first time in his career, a milestone largely powered by Yamal’s dance videos, one of which amassed over 126 million views. The footballer, who commands a following of over 26 million on TikTok, unintentionally sparked a global revival of ‘Shake Body’ after featuring it in his viral dance clips.

Now, Skales is tipping his hat to the young star, hoping to keep the momentum going with a track directly inspired by the viral energy Yamal helped create.
This moment marks another case of older songs enjoying new life on TikTok. In 2024, veteran Nigerian highlife artist Mike Ejeagha experienced a similar surge after comedian Brain Jotter used one of his 1983 classics ‘Gwo Gwo Gwo Ngwo’ in a skit. Likewise, CKay’s ‘Love Nwantiti’ famously rose to global fame years after its release, fueled by TikTok trends.
With ‘Dance Like Lamine Yamal’, Skales isn’t just riding a trend, he’s honoring the young athlete who helped score him a second shot at global stardom, while aiming to drop another TikTok anthem in the process.
