In a recent interview with RODE, popular Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie addressed the controversy surrounding his latest song, ‘Brag.’ The song sparked a heated debate after Sarkodie mentioned Wizkid, Davido, and Burna Boy, leading many to believe he was throwing shade at the Nigerian Afrobeats superstars.
However, Sarkodie clarified that his intention was not to feud with the trio, but rather to highlight his longevity in the music industry. He explained that his reference to Wizkid, Davido, and Burna Boy was simply to illustrate his point about being a veteran in the industry.
Sarkodie emphasized that if he wanted to throw jabs, his target would have been rappers, not singers. He praised Wizkid, Burna Boy, and Davido as “incredible, amazing artists” and stated that he was only using them as examples of his tenure in the industry.
The controversy had also led to a back-and-forth between Dremo, a former signee of Davido, and Lyrical Joe, a signee of Sarkodie, with both artists releasing diss tracks daily. However, with Sarkodie’s clarification, it seems the feud may be coming to an end.
- “Wizkid, Burna Boy and Davido would never think I want to jab them because if I want to jab somebody, it has to be rappers. They are not rappers.”
- “I am just talking to rappers about how long I’ve been there and who else is best to use as reverence? Everybody knows Wizkid, Burna Boy, Black Sheriff, Asake and Davido. And it’s true that I was in the industry before they all came in. It’s just references of how long I’ve been there. It’s not throwing jabs at anybody. These are incredible, amazing artists.”
