Highly controversial street-hop singer Portable has successfully evaded jail time after paying a ₦30,000 fine imposed by the court for a 2022 assault case.
On Tuesday, April 29, 2025, a magistrate court in Ifo Local Government Area of Ogun State sentenced the artist to three months’ imprisonment with an option of a ₦30,000 fine.
According to Inspector Olumide Awoleke, the police prosecutor, Portable, real name Badmus Habeeb Okikiola, committed the offence on November 18, 2022, in Okeosa, Ilogbo, where he and unidentified accomplices assaulted a man named Osimosu Emmanuel Oluwafemi.
The charges brought against him were:
- Conspiracy to commit assault, punishable under Section 517 of the Ogun State Criminal Code
- Unlawful assault, punishable under Section 351 of the same code
The court found him guilty on both counts and sentenced him to:
- One month in prison or ₦10,000 fine for the conspiracy charge
- Two months in prison or ₦20,000 fine for the assault charge
Portable promptly paid the combined ₦30,000 fine, avoiding incarceration.
The singer, known for his antics and run-ins with authorities, continues to make headlines as one of Nigeria’s most unpredictable music figures.
