Olamide has unveiled the much-anticipated music video for his hit single “Uptown Disco,” featuring fellow YBNL stars Asake and Fireboy.
“Uptown Disco” is one of the standout tracks from Olamide’s latest project Ikigai, a title derived from a Japanese concept meaning “reason for being” or “life’s purpose.” The track, which has quickly become a fan favorite, showcases the dynamic synergy between Olamide, Asake, and Fireboy, all of whom bring their unique flair to the song.
The visually stunning music video, released on August 14, 2024, was directed by Jyde Ajala, a filmmaker renowned for his work with top Nigerian artists like Olamide, Asake, and Adekunle Gold. Set in the United States, the video captures the essence of the fast-paced, glamorous life of superstars. Fireboy’s thrilling chase scene with the police adds an extra layer of excitement, while Olamide and Asake deliver vibrant performances against a backdrop of dancers and vixens.
Ikigai, released on June 10, 2024, marks Olamide’s 10th solo project and has been met with widespread acclaim. The EP, which features collaborations with YBNL veterans Pheelz, Young Jonn, and Lil Kesh, has already racked up 7.92 million streams in its opening week, with the lead single “Metaverse” breaking into the top 10 of the TurnTable Top 100.
The release of the “Uptown Disco” video is poised to further cement Olamide’s legacy as one of the greatest artists in Nigerian music history, extending his decade-long run of chart-topping hits.
