Chart-topping rapper OdumoduBlvck has shared a remarkable story of collaboration and generosity involving legendary producer, musician, and Mavin Records founder, Don Jazzy. During a recent interview with Beats FM, OdumoduBlvck opened up about securing a verse from Don Jazzy for his latest project and the unexpected gesture that left him in awe.
OdumoduBlvck, a member of the Anti-World Gangsters crew, recently released a joint album titled Nothing Changed. One of the standout tracks on the project, Asampete, features Don Jazzy, whose involvement elevated the song to new heights.
Speaking about how the collaboration came to life, OdumoduBlvck revealed that after recording Asampete, he felt it needed Don Jazzy’s touch. To his delight, the music mogul agreed to be part of the track. However, what happened next took OdumoduBlvck by surprise.
“When I went to his house to get his vocals, he gave me $10,000,” OdumoduBlvck shared, recounting the generosity of Don Jazzy. “Even my friend was asking me why he gave me such a huge amount of money.”
In addition to gifting him the money, Don Jazzy refused to take any royalties for his contribution to the track. This selfless act further solidified Don Jazzy’s reputation as one of the most original and generous figures in the Nigerian music industry.
OdumoduBlvck didn’t hold back his admiration for Don Jazzy, describing him as a “real don” and emphasizing the impact the producer has had on the industry.
“There’s nobody more original than Don Jazzy,” he said. “The way the younger artists look up to Burna Boy, Davido, Wizkid, and Olamide today is how they used to look up to Don Jazzy.”
Don Jazzy’s influence on Nigerian music is undeniable. Over the years, numerous artists have shared similar stories of his generosity and mentorship. For example, superstar Davido has often credited Don Jazzy and D’banj as inspirations for his decision to move to Nigeria and pursue a music career after witnessing their superstar lifestyle.
Beyond music, Don Jazzy’s philanthropic efforts also make headlines. Recently, he donated 100 million naira to support the charity work of media personality and philanthropist Very Dark Man, further cementing his status as a role model and benefactor in the Nigerian entertainment space.
OdumoduBlvck’s story is yet another testament to Don Jazzy’s unwavering commitment to uplifting others and his enduring legacy as one of the most beloved figures in African music.
