The Headies Academy has officially unveiled the nominees for the 17th edition of the prestigious award ceremony, marking a return to Nigeria after two consecutive editions in the United States. This year’s event promises to be highly competitive, with some of the biggest hits and acclaimed projects from 2023 to 2024 earning nominations across multiple categories.
One of the most anticipated categories every year is the Next Rated Award, which has consistently spotlighted emerging superstars poised for long-term success. This year, the competition is fierce as OdumoduBlvck, Shallipopi, Ayo Maff, Qing Madi, and Nasboi have all been nominated for the coveted prize.
Each of these artists has enjoyed significant commercial success and cultural impact since breaking into the mainstream. Among the nominees, OdumoduBlvck stands out with prior Headies recognition, having won Best Rap Song and Rookie of the Year at the 16th edition.
Meanwhile, the Rookie of the Year category features Taves, Zerrydl, Kaestyle, and Llona, who are vying to succeed OdumoduBlvck as the latest breakout talent. However, rising artist TML Vibes, who many fans expected to see on the list, missed out on a nomination, sparking discussions online.
According to the Headies, eligibility for nominations was based on music releases—including singles, videos, live recordings, EPs, and albums—distributed across digital streaming platforms and physical media (cassettes, CDs, and vinyl) within the review period of April 1, 2023, to July 31, 2024.
With the stakes higher than ever, fans and industry insiders eagerly await the 17th Headies Awards to see which rising star will take home the prestigious Next Rated title.
