The 2025 American Music Awards (AMAs) are around the corner, and Nigerian music is once again taking center stage on the global scene. Four of Afrobeats’ biggest exports—Tems, Asake, Rema, and Wizkid, have been nominated in the Favorite Afrobeats Artist category, reinforcing the genre’s unstoppable global momentum.
After a stellar 2024 filled with high-profile releases and Grammy nominations, these Nigerian stars continue to gain international recognition:
- Tems earned critical acclaim with her long-awaited debut album, Born In The Wild.
- Rema followed up his explosive rise with his sophomore project, HEIS, a genre-blending album that also earned him a Grammy nod.
- Asake kept the streets hot with his third album, Lungu Boy, staying true to his signature blend of street-hop and Afro-fusion.
- Wizkid delivered his sixth studio album, Morayo, further cementing his legacy as a global music icon.
Their joint effort on the track “MMS” was a major hit in 2024, garnering Grammy nominations for Best African Music Performance. That same collaboration is also a driving force behind their recognition at the 2025 AMAs.
The Nigerian quartet will face off against South African breakout star Tyla, making the Favorite Afrobeats category one of the most competitive and culturally rich lineups of the year.
A Historic Comeback for the AMAs
The 2025 edition of the AMAs marks its 51st show, returning after a two-year hiatus in 2023 and 2024. The awards ceremony will be hosted by Jennifer Lopez and is scheduled to air live on May 25 on CBS.
