The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is reportedly preparing to open disciplinary proceedings against Victor Osimhen following his recent verbal attack on former Super Eagles head coach, Finidi George.
In a fiery Instagram Live session, the Napoli striker lashed out at Finidi George, criticizing him for allegedly questioning Osimhen’s commitment to the national team. This outburst came after Osimhen withdrew from Nigeria’s last two 2026 World Cup qualifiers due to injury.
Finidi George was quoted as saying he wouldn’t beg Osimhen to play for the national team—a statement later revealed to be false and misleading.
According to Vanguard, the NFF will charge Osimhen with improper conduct over his harsh remarks directed at Finidi George. An NFF board member confirmed this development to Owngoal Nigeria, stating, “The president of the NFF, Ibrahim Musa Gusau, has already spoken with Osimhen about his outburst, and Finidi has also reached out to him. The report Osimhen reacted to was fake and misleading, and it’s unfortunate he didn’t verify it before reacting.”
The board member continued, “Victor Osimhen is a role model, and to support the new coach’s authority, we need to set an example. He crossed the line with his outburst. Even after Finidi called to explain, Osimhen didn’t see fit to retract his statements. We can’t condone this behavior, and after the Salah break, we will address the issue. I can assure you he won’t be in the team until he apologizes for his actions.”
This controversy has sparked widespread attention, highlighting the importance of verifying information before reacting publicly, especially for high-profile athletes like Osimhen.
