Veteran Nigerian artist Skales is using his current resurgence to inspire the next generation of musicians, urging them to stay the course even when success feels out of reach.

In a heartfelt post on X (formerly Twitter), Skales dropped a gem for emerging talents navigating the unpredictable music industry:
“Your music will take you places all over the globe. You just need to be consistent enough to see it happen. Most artists quit before the blessings show up. Keep going.”
The advice comes from a deeply personal place. Skales, who has been in the game for over a decade, is currently enjoying one of the most unexpected and significant comebacks of his career. His 2014 smash hit ‘Shake Body’ has found a second life on TikTok, thanks in part to viral videos featuring 18-year-old FC Barcelona star Lamine Yamal.
The renewed attention has pushed ‘Shake Body’ to trend globally on TikTok and helped Skales reach 1 million monthly listeners on Spotify for the first time in his career.
In response to this surprising wave of new fans, Skales recorded a tribute single titled ‘Dance Like Lamine Yamal’, further leaning into the moment and showing young artists the power of adaptability and timing.
Skales is also set to capitalize on his current momentum with the release of a new album titled ‘Martina’s Son’, dropping August 6, 2025. He announced the project in a post featuring legendary gospel and Tungba icon Yinka Ayefele, hinting at a mix of tradition and innovation on the upcoming body of work.
“MARTINA’S son the album… AUG 6th”, Skales wrote on X alongside the video.
His story reflects a growing trend in Afrobeats, where social media is breathing new life into old hits. Similar success stories include CKay’s ‘Love Nwantiti’ and Mike Ejeagha’s ‘Gwo Gwo Gwo Ngwo,’ both of which exploded years after release thanks to viral moments.
For Skales, the message is simple: consistency pays off. And for young artists out there wondering if it’s worth the grind, he’s living proof that the blessing might just be one post, one trend, or one moment away.
