Nigerian rapper Lil Kesh has revealed that marriage is not on his radar, and he’s perfectly fine with that.
The 31-year-old artist made the statement during a recent appearance on the Esther podcast, where he shared his views on relationships, personal growth, and why he isn’t actively pursuing love or commitment at the moment.
According to Lil Kesh, he’s not in a relationship and isn’t seeking one either, largely because of the emotional and time commitments that come with dating. For him, the kind of love he’s open to would have to inspire compromise, and he’s simply not at that stage right now.
“It would be nice to find someone who would make me compromise. But right now, I’m not intentional about dating. If I’m dating you, I’ll have to make time for you. I’m 31. I’m not a kid anymore.”
The rapper also noted that he’s grateful his parents aren’t pressuring him to settle down. “They’ve made peace with the fact that I’m different,” he said.
When asked about marriage, Lil Kesh didn’t hold back on his thoughts. He explained that he doesn’t currently believe in the institution of marriage, not because he wants to live recklessly or avoid responsibility, but because he’s seen too many unhappy unions to trust in the concept.
“It’s not like I don’t want to get married because I want to be free or be a playboy, I just don’t believe in marriage. They don’t work. Have you seen the rate of divorces? I’ve seen a lot of unhappy marriages.”
He added that although happy marriages do exist, he doesn’t feel ready to build that kind of home and refuses to drag anyone into an unfulfilling situation just to fit societal expectations.
“Personally, I want a happy home, and I don’t feel like I can do that yet. And I’m not going to jeopardize someone’s happiness just because I have to get married.”
Lil Kesh’s take adds to the growing conversation around evolving views on marriage and relationships, particularly among younger Nigerian creatives who are choosing personal peace and purpose over tradition.
