Nigerian musician Kelly Hansome, known for his hit song Maga Don Pay, has made shocking claims about his experiences in the music industry, including allegations against his former record label, Kennis Music, and music star D’banj.
Exploitation Claims Against Kennis Music
In a video clip from an upcoming podcast, Kelly Hansome recounted troubling experiences with Kennis Music. The singer alleged that the label once told him he was being paid ₦450,000 for a performance, only for him to later discover the show organizers had allegedly paid ₦6 million.
This revelation reportedly led to him stopping the show midway and informing the audience he hadn’t been properly paid, prompting the organizers to demand a refund.
The video also showed Kelly Hansome discussing a ₦140 million endorsement deal, shedding light on what he described as exploitation during his time with the label.
Feud with Kennis Music Management
Kelly Hansome didn’t hold back in criticizing Kennis Music’s co-owner, Kenny Ogungbe, accusing him of blocking his music and preventing his interviews from being aired during their feud. He expressed frustration at being sidelined despite his talent.
The singer captioned the Instagram post with a warning to fans not to pick sides without knowing the full story. He wrote:
“Don’t pick sides until you know the full story because some people are highly skilled in making others look bad. They’ve been doing this to everyone until e reach my turn. They do this sh** for a living.”
He also hinted at returning to the studio, stating:
“Let me remind them ‘who the F’ because I’m 100% sure they forgot, but hey, no hard feelings.”
Allegations Involving D’banj
Kelly Hansome also alleged that D’banj once asked for a laptop to be held for a mugshot when he was arrested by the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).
This is not the first time Kelly Hansome has made accusations against Nigerian music heavyweights. In 2021, he claimed that Don Jazzy had him arrested by SARS and transported from Kano to Abuja in handcuffs.
Industry Fallout
Kelly Hansome’s revelations highlight the ongoing tensions and challenges artists often face in the Nigerian music industry. While the singer has faced criticism for his outspoken nature, his claims add to a growing conversation about transparency and fairness in the industry.
Fans are eagerly awaiting the full podcast episode to hear more about his experiences and his take on the events that shaped his career.
