ID Cabasa Opens Up About Olamide’s Departure from Coded Tunez

In 2010, Olamide’s music career took off as an artist on ID Cabasa’s Coded Tunez label. He released his breakout single ‘Eni Duro’ and debut album ‘Rhapsody’ under this label, which marked the beginning of his successful journey in the music industry.

In a recent interview on the Afrobeats Podcast with host Adesope, ID Cabasa shared his emotional response to Olamide’s decision to leave Coded Tunez and start his own label, YBNL, in 2012. Cabasa revealed that he felt deeply hurt and moved to tears when Olamide told him about his plans to leave.

Different Visions, Different Paths

According to ID Cabasa, Olamide explained that he had visions and ideas that didn’t align with his, which led to his departure. Despite understanding Olamide’s desire to pursue his own path, Cabasa admitted that it was painful to let go of the talented artist.

Maintaining a Close Relationship

Despite Olamide’s departure, the two have maintained a close relationship. In fact, Olamide is the executive producer on ID Cabasa’s forthcoming album, a testament to their enduring bond.

New Projects on the Horizon

ID Cabasa is currently working on a new album that reimagines classic Nigerian records, featuring an array of stars. He has already released a remake of 9ice’s hit single ‘Photocopy’ featuring Vector and has announced the impending release of a reimagined version of Styl Plus’ hit record ‘Olufunmi’, which will feature Joeboy, Fireboy, Odumodublvck, and Boj.

This new project showcases ID Cabasa’s continued contribution to the Nigerian music scene and his ability to evolve and collaborate with new talent.
