Nigerian singer and Grammy-winning star Tems is celebrating her curves, confidence, and culture in a new interview that has fans buzzing.
During a candid conversation with Cocoa Butter in Atlanta, Georgia, the 29-year-old opened up about what she cherishes most about being a Black woman, and her answer was both bold and beautiful.
“I love being curvy. I love that I have a little booty, you know what I’m saying?” Tems said with a laugh, glowing with self-assurance.
The “Free Mind” singer didn’t stop there. She described her “figure 8” shape as one of the many blessings of being a Black woman, proudly embracing her natural physique and the confidence it brings her.
Tems also spoke on what shapes her now-iconic fashion style, which continues to make headlines globally, from the Grammys to the Met Gala.
“I’m definitely into details. I’m definitely into the bling,” she said.
“I think Nigerians are very extravagant in everything, and I’m very into that. But I always put my own spin, and I’m not afraid to be who I am.”
Her fearless fashion choices and unapologetic sense of identity have made Tems not only a music powerhouse but also a style icon for a new generation.
Earlier this month, during the 2025 Met Gala in New York, Tems used her platform to highlight Africa’s beauty and vibrancy. She encouraged the global community to visit Lagos and Ghana before forming any opinions about the continent.
“Just go and see for yourself before you make an opinion about Africa. See it for yourself and see how you feel,” she said.
Born Temilade Openiyi on June 11, 1995, in Lagos, Tems’ journey is one of resilience and self-discovery. After spending part of her early years in the UK, she returned to Nigeria at age five following her parents’ separation. Since then, she has risen to global fame with her soulful vocals, introspective lyrics, and strong cultural pride.
From celebrating her curves to challenging stereotypes about Africa, Tems continues to show the world that being authentic is the ultimate superpower.
