Street-pop sensation Portable, known for his bold personality and signature face tattoos, has addressed comparisons between his tattoos and those of fellow Nigerian star Asake.
The Face Tattoo Debate
Recently, Grammy-nominated singer Asake debuted his own facial tattoos, sparking reactions from fans and drawing comparisons to Portable’s iconic ink. However, the self-proclaimed “Wahala Musician” isn’t flattered by the comparison and took to social media to voice his opinion.
In a candid video shared on his social platforms, Portable dismissed the idea that he resembles Asake, stating:
“No dey use me compare Asake,” he said in Pidgin English, before adding, “I don’t look like Asake; I look like Lil Wayne.”
Inspired by Lil Wayne
Portable explained that his tattoos are inspired by American rap icon Lil Wayne, who is known for his elaborate facial ink. He emphasized that he’s more akin to the Young Money boss and an international superstar, not just another artist in the Nigerian scene.
He also took a swipe at fans who compared him to other artists like Kodak Black, reiterating that his style and tattoos are uniquely his and inspired by global hip-hop culture.
Addressing Asake’s Ink
Portable went on to claim that Asake is the one mimicking his style by opting for face tattoos, positioning himself as an innovator in the Nigerian music industry.
Celebrating His Success
The singer also used the opportunity to remind fans of his growing international acclaim, referencing his recent partnership with Sony Music, which he credited for securing royalties from his hit collaboration with Skepta.
Known for his fiery personality and controversial moments, Portable concluded by boasting about his influence in the industry, calling himself a trendsetter and urging others to stop mirroring his style.

Love him or loathe him, Portable continues to cement his place in Nigerian pop culture, whether through his music or his audacious public persona.
