Super Eagles head coach Finidi George has stated that he will not participate in choosing a new captain for the team.
The current captain, Ahmed Musa, is currently inactive and is expected to be left out of the squad for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin Republic.
In Musa’s absence, William Troost-Ekong of PAOK Salonica has been serving as the stand-in captain for the Super Eagles.
Finidi emphasized that it is up to the players to decide who will lead them.
“It’s not my responsibility to pick a captain; it’s the responsibility of the team,” he said during a media tour.
“People said that Sunday Oliseh picked his captain and that Finidi George should do the same. But it’s not my responsibility to choose a captain.
“The players will select someone they are comfortable with. It is up to them to decide who wears the captain’s armband.”
