Ex-Winner Alleges Nigerian Idol Failed to Pay His ₦7.5M Prize Money

Kunle Ogunrombi, popularly known as K-Peace, has accused the organisers of Nigerian Idol of failing to deliver the prizes he won after emerging as the winner of Season 5 in 2015.

Speaking on Nedu Wazobia’s Honest Bunch Podcast, K-Peace claimed that despite being presented with a cheque for ₦7.5 million and a car, he never actually received the money.

The singer recalled his struggles after winning the competition, stating that he was left with no financial support while still expected to fulfill media obligations and public appearances.

“I came out of the Nigerian Idol platform with zero naira in my account,” he said.

He further explained, “As Nigerian Idol winner, I go waka all through Lagos, go for interviews without food for belle despite winning ₦7.5 million. It was announced that I won ₦7.5 million. I asked when they were going to give me the money and the car. They were pushing it forward that the car was being branded.

“What you announced on national television is that I won ₦7.5 million with a car. And I am supposed to have a two-week trip to Dubai. I was going through hell.”

At the time of this report, there is no confirmation on whether K-Peace eventually received the prizes. His revelations have sparked discussions about the credibility of talent shows and the treatment of winners in the Nigerian entertainment industry.
