Veteran Nigerian DJ and Mavin Records in-house disc jockey, DJ Big N, had high praise for Afrobeats sensation Rema during a recent appearance on the Afrobeats Podcast. While reflecting on the artist’s rise and creative trajectory, Big N described Rema as a “stubborn boy”, but in the best possible way.

According to the seasoned DJ, Rema is an artist who has always had a clear direction for his career. His actions, music, and decisions are deliberate, not random. DJ Big N said Rema has already mapped out his path to success and is determined to follow it, step by step.
“What Rema is going to do in 2027… He’s someone who has already mapped his success journey and at every level, he already knows where he wants to be,” Big N shared.
He emphasized that Rema’s determination to do things his way is what sets him apart in the global music space.
“He’s going to be the poster boy for music in general. He’s a stubborn boy who dares to be different, and there are not many like him.”
Since bursting onto the scene in 2019, Rema has consistently defied norms, blending genres, cultures, and visuals in ways that stretch beyond Afrobeats. His success has earned him a Grammy nomination and a string of global hits, including Calm Down, Holiday, and Ozeba.
In a recent series of posts on social media, Rema revealed that his sophomore album HEIS was inspired by a fusion of Chinese astrology, anime, his Benin heritage, and a desire to return Afrobeats to its spiritual and sonic roots. That creative depth, DJ Big N suggests, is what makes Rema not just a star but a visionary.
Rema’s willingness to take risks and his unshakable confidence in his artistry have made him one of Nigeria’s most influential young exports. According to DJ Big N, the best is yet to come.
