Davido Reveals Surprising Backup Career Plan — and It Has Nothing to Do With Music

Afrobeats megastar Davido has shocked fans with an unexpected revelation: if he hadn’t pursued music, he’d be a journalist.

The Timeless hitmaker made the surprising statement during a recent interview on Beat 96.1FM while promoting his upcoming album. Known for his high-energy performances and chart-topping tracks, Davido shared that he actually has a strong interest in communication and media, so much so that he could see himself in journalism.

“I’ve been doing crazy promo for my album, not easy,” Davido said. “I don’t have to do promo, but I like it. I like conversing and all. A lot of people don’t know that aside from business management, I also studied marketing. So I like to talk. If I had a podcast, I’d talk for three or four days straight!”

In a candid moment that quickly went viral, he added:

“If I wasn’t doing music, I would definitely be in something like journalism.”

For fans who are used to seeing him on stage, Davido’s interest in information-sharing might come as a surprise, but it turns out, the singer is a self-proclaimed news junkie.

“When people meet me, I like to have conversations. I like to know things. I’m very informative. I watch the news a lot, when I wake up, CNN is on the television downstairs.”

According to the singer, his natural curiosity and love for staying informed are what help him connect with fans and remain one of the most followed African artists in the world.

“Some people ask me why I get the most followers, it’s because I tap in and I’m always working.”

It’s safe to say that while Davido may have taken the music route, his passion for storytelling and communication would’ve made him a force in the media world too. Whether it’s through music or journalism, one thing’s clear, Davido knows how to keep people talking.
