Davido Celebrates ‘5IVE’ With Heartfelt Meet-and-Greet for Superfans in Lagos

In celebration of his highly anticipated fifth studio album, ‘5IVE’, Afrobeats megastar Davido hosted an intimate meet-and-greet event in Lagos that left fans buzzing with excitement. Presented by Spotify, the exclusive gathering brought together 50 superfans and five media partners for a memorable afternoon filled with surprises, music, and personal connections.

Unlike typical invite-only events, attendees had to earn their way in by passing a special Davido-themed quiz, answering five questions about the artist’s career and music. The challenge, organized by Spotify, added a competitive edge and made the event even more rewarding for the lucky fans who made it through.

The event was hosted by Ireculture, whose infectious energy kept spirits high, while SmallztheDJ spun a lively set of Afrobeats hits. But the highlight of the day came when Davido himself, after playfully teasing his absence, made a dramatic surprise entrance that sent fans into a frenzy.

His arrival was classic Davido: energetic, unpredictable, and full of charm. He immediately engaged with attendees, creating an atmosphere that felt more like a family reunion than a formal event.

One of the most touching moments of the evening came during a roundtable session, where fans shared their reactions to the new album. Early standout track “10 Kilo” emerged as a crowd favourite, with several attendees praising its production and lyrical depth.

To top it all off, guests received exclusive ‘5IVE’-themed gift boxes, featuring fashion items from Severe Nature, the Nigerian streetwear brand behind the album’s official merchandise.

Reflecting on his career and the ambition behind this project, Davido said:

“When you see artists like Beyoncé, Drake, Kendrick Lamar, and Rihanna, you realise the work it takes to get there. This time, I wanted to go all out, and I’m seeing the results.”

Spotify’s Victor Okapala, Head of Artist and Label Partnerships for West Africa, praised the event’s success, saying:

“This event is a testament to the power of music to bring fans and artists closer together. Working with Davido on the release of 5IVE highlights the global energy behind Afrobeats and the artist’s strong fan connection.”

Spotify’s latest data reflects Davido’s growing international influence. In the last year alone, his music has been added to over 12 million playlists, with strong listenership in Nigeria, the U.S., the U.K., South Africa, and France. His core audience? A youthful crowd, with 34% aged 18–24 and 41% aged 25–34.

As ‘5IVE’ continues to dominate streaming charts, this heartfelt fan experience further cements Davido’s status not just as a hitmaker, but as a beloved cultural icon who continues to connect deeply with his audience.
