Nigerian beauty queen Chidimma Vanessa Adetshina has been named Miss Universe Africa and Oceania at the 73rd Miss Universe Competition, held in Mexico. She finished as the first runner-up, behind Denmark’s Victoria Kjaer Theilvig, who was crowned Miss Universe 2024.
Adetshina’s achievement is historic, as she becomes the first-ever Miss Universe Nigeria to secure a spot in the competition’s top two, cementing her as a trailblazer for the country on the global stage. Alongside her global recognition, she now holds the titles of Miss Universe Nigeria, Africa, and Oceania.
Her path to the competition was not without its challenges. After withdrawing from the Miss South Africa pageant due to controversies surrounding her nationality, Adetshina redirected her focus to represent Nigeria, a decision that has now earned her accolades and widespread admiration.
Adetshina’s success has been celebrated across Africa, with many lauding her poise, resilience, and ability to break barriers for Nigerian and African women in international beauty pageants.
