CAF Confirms Dates for 2024 CHAN Tournament: Set to Take Place in East Africa

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially announced the dates for the 2024 TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN). Following a crucial CAF Executive Committee meeting held in Nairobi, Kenya, CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe confirmed that the CHAN tournament will take place from February 1 to February 28, 2025.

This year’s edition promises to be thrilling, especially with Senegal entering as the defending champions. Senegal clinched the title two years ago in a dramatic final, beating hosts Algeria in Algiers. CHAN is unique compared to other African football tournaments as it exclusively features players who compete in their nation’s domestic leagues, making it a showcase of homegrown talent.

Qualifiers to Kick Off in October

The first round of CHAN qualifiers is scheduled for the weekend of October 25-27, 2024. Teams across Africa will battle for a coveted spot in the final tournament, setting the stage for intense competition as the tournament draws nearer.

Kenya to Host CHAN 2024

CAF has chosen East Africa as the host region for CHAN 2024, with Kenya being a key focus for the event. During his visit to the country, Dr. Motsepe inspected several potential venues. He stressed the importance of collaboration and swift action to ensure all facilities are fully prepared in time for the tournament. The finalized list of stadiums and venues will be revealed in the coming months.

This will mark a significant moment for East African football as they host one of Africa’s major international football tournaments, highlighting the region’s growing influence on the continental stage.

Stay tuned for more updates as CAF reveals further details about CHAN 2024.
