Burna Boy Shatters African Spotify Record with New Single ‘Higher’

Burna Boy’s latest single, ‘Higher,’ has set a new record for the highest opening day streams for a solo song on Spotify Nigeria. The track garnered 530,792 streams in its first full day, surpassing the previous record held by Wizkid’s ‘Diamond,’ which had 518,000 streams.

Since achieving international success with his 2018 hit ‘YE,’ Burna Boy has become a global music sensation, continually setting and breaking records. His new single ‘Higher’ not only set a new benchmark in Nigeria but also established a record for the most opening day streams for a solo song by an African artist. This achievement surpasses his previous record with the 2023 Grammy-nominated single ‘City Boy.’

This feat underscores Burna Boy’s influence and status as a global superstar, paving the way for African artists on the international stage.

Burna Boy has been in a record-setting mode this year. Recently, he made history with a sold-out concert at the London Stadium, becoming the first African artist to sell out the venue twice and headline two stadium concerts in the UK. Additionally, he set new records for the highest-grossing concert by an African artist in the United States and the highest-grossing tour by an African artist in Canada.
