Burna Boy Responds to Critics: “Y’all Are Lucky I Have Too Much to Lose Now”

Nigerian Afrobeats superstar Burna Boy has responded to online criticism following a viral clip that sparked conversations about his stage presence. The clip, which captured the Grammy-winning artist walking onto the stage, was met with mixed reactions, with some social media users labeling his walk as “feminine.”

Addressing the backlash, Burna Boy took to his Instagram story on Christmas Eve to share his thoughts. In a bold statement, he wrote:

“When they talk nobody cares, but when I react it’s a Nuclear disaster. Y’all don’t know how lucky you are that I have too much to lose now, Walahi a lot of you would not be here no more. Anyway make I just go buy another thing relax.”

The post quickly became a topic of heated debate online, dividing opinions among fans and critics alike.

Some supporters rallied behind Burna Boy, empathizing with the constant scrutiny he faces as a public figure. One fan expressed concern, saying:

“It’s so sad how people constantly criticise Burna Boy, throwing hurtful words at him and laughing like it’s a joke. But the moment he reacts, he’s labelled an oppressor. People forget he’s human too, with feelings that can be hurt. Let’s do better as fans and as a society. Supporting our own doesn’t mean tearing them down.”

Another supporter highlighted the toxic nature of online trolling, stating:

“People will keep using jokes to hurt people. Everything for them is cruise, but they are hurting people in the process. And if these people they hurt complain, they are still called names.”

However, not everyone was sympathetic. Some questioned the tone of his response. One user wrote:

“A lot of us would not be here no more how? You wan akpi us abi you wan kpai us?”

Another added, “Na celebrity you be, you no be God.”

Critics also pointed out a perceived disconnect between Burna Boy’s response and his public image. One comment read:

“I used to think this one was a musical freedom fighter—man is more interested in his pockets.”

The incident shines a light on the challenges faced by public figures navigating the intense scrutiny of social media. While some believe Burna Boy’s response was justified given the provocation, others argue that his reaction could have been more measured.

As the debate rages on, Burna Boy remains one of Africa’s most celebrated artists, with an unwavering global fanbase that continues to champion his music and artistry. Whether loved or criticized, his influence on the music scene is undeniable.
