Nigerian music sensation Damini Ogulu, famously known as Burna Boy, has set a historic record as the first African artist to receive Grammy nominations for six consecutive years. Since his first nomination in 2018, Burna Boy has continued to make waves on the global music stage, now boasting an impressive eleven nominations. His only Grammy win came in 2021 for his album Twice as Tall in the Best Global Music Album category.
This year, his popular track “Higher” is nominated in the newly created Best African Music Performance category, a nod to the global influence of African music genres. The consistency of Burna Boy’s nominations highlights his impact in bringing African music into the mainstream spotlight.
Meanwhile, fellow Nigerian artist Tems is also breaking records at the upcoming 67th Grammys.
