In a recent episode of the “Terms And Conditions” podcast, the talented talking drummer and cultural ambassador of the Ooni of Ife, Ara, shared her inspiring journey to becoming Africa’s first female talking drummer. Despite facing cultural barriers and discouragement, Ara’s determination and passion for music led her to break new ground and shatter traditional beliefs.

Overcoming Cultural Beliefs

Ara revealed that she was warned that playing the talking drum could prevent her from having children, a cultural belief that threatened to hold her back. However, she refused to let this stop her, teaching herself to play the instrument and proving the naysayers wrong. Today, Ara is a proud mother to a son with her estranged husband, Prince Nurudeen Olalekan Saliu.

Paving the Way

Ara’s success is not just a personal achievement but also a victory for women in music. She has paved the way for future generations of female drummers, showing that with hard work and dedication, anything is possible. Her story serves as a reminder that cultural beliefs should not limit our potential and that we should always strive to break barriers and push beyond our perceived limitations.

Conclusion

Ara’s journey is a testament to the power of passion, determination, and hard work. Her legacy continues to inspire and empower women in music, and her story is a reminder that we should never let cultural beliefs hold us back from achieving our dreams.
