Afropop sensation Ayra Starr is stepping into new creative territory, and this time it’s not on a music stage. The Nigerian star is making her acting debut in the highly anticipated Hollywood adaptation of Tomi Adeyemi’s bestselling fantasy novel Children of Blood and Bone.
In a recent interview with CBS Mornings, Ayra opened up about the exciting challenge of transitioning from music to film. “My first movie ever,” she said with a smile. “I’m used to being a singer and a diva on set, but in a movie, it’s not about you. You have to be on set on time.”
Ayra Starr joins a star-studded cast that includes powerhouse talents like Cynthia Erivo, Viola Davis, and Idris Elba. Despite the magnitude of the project, the Mavin Records singer says the experience has humbled her and helped her grow.
“Being in front of the camera in this way is new for me. I got used to military time and working hard. I respect actors so much more now, their stamina is impeccable,” she shared. “I love music, but I’ve always loved the arts. I used to be shy about acting, but this was the right time.”
Ayra also expressed admiration for her co-stars, noting that she learned not only from seasoned actors but also from the younger talents on set. “I learned from everyone, 16-year-olds, 14-year-olds, just watching them was inspiring.”
With this new venture, Ayra Starr continues to expand her creative horizons, proving she’s more than just a chart-topping artist. As she makes her Hollywood debut, fans around the world are watching closely, and rooting for her all the way.
