The 2024 MTV Europe Music Awards (EMAs) have unveiled their nomination list, and Nigerian music heavyweights are well represented across major categories. Ayra Starr leads the Nigerian pack with four nominations, including Best New Artist, Best Afrobeats Act, Best African Act, and Best Push. She faces tough competition for Best New Artist from the likes of Benson Boone, Chappell Roan, LE SSERAFIM, Teddy Swims, The Last Dinner Party, and South African star Tyla.

In the Best Afrobeats Act category, Ayra Starr goes head-to-head with Burna Boy, Rema, Tems, Asake, and Tyla. All eyes are on Tyla, who made headlines after winning the Best Afrobeats prize at the 2024 VMAs, despite asserting that she primarily represents the Amapiano genre rather than Afrobeats.

  • Best Afrobeats Act: Ayra Starr, Burna Boy, Rema, Tems, Asake, Tyla
  • Best African Act: Ayra Starr, Asake, Tyla, DBN Gogo, Diamond Platnumz, TitoM & Yuppe
