Nigerian comedian and actor AY Makun has addressed a viral AI-generated video depicting him kissing May Edochie, the estranged wife of actor Yul Edochie.
The clip, which surfaced online and quickly sparked reactions across social media, was soon debunked by AY himself. Taking to Instagram on February 4, 2025, he shared the original, unaltered pictures and called out those using artificial intelligence to spread false narratives.
In his post, AY urged young creatives to channel their technological skills towards positive innovation rather than creating misleading content that could damage reputations.
“Dear Online Innovators, as the future leaders and change-makers of Nigeria, I urge you to channel your immense creative talents toward building a better nation rather than tearing each other down.”
He emphasized that falsehoods have real-world consequences, reminding social media users that negativity and misinformation only fuel division.
“It’s essential to recognize that every action has consequences. When we choose to sabotage others, we only perpetuate a cycle of negativity and destruction.”
Encouraging a shift toward collaboration and positivity, AY called for unity in celebrating successes rather than using technology to create harmful and misleading content.
As AI-generated content becomes more prevalent, AY’s response serves as a wake-up call about the ethical implications of such digital manipulation.
