“At What Cost?” – Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde Cautions Against Social Media Validation

Veteran Nollywood actress Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde is urging fans and content creators to think twice before trading their integrity for internet fame.

In a thought-provoking series of posts shared via her Instagram Stories, the actress voiced her concerns about the growing obsession with social media validation and the alarming ease with which people go viral, often for the wrong reasons.

“Do you know that it is very easy to trend? Very, very easy,” she wrote.

Omotola, fondly known as Omosexy, went on to call out the desperation some people exhibit online for the sake of going viral.

“Just say or do something out of the norm, insult someone important or go nude. It’s so easy, so desperate, so cheap,” she said.

She questioned the cost of chasing clout in today’s world, where attention seems to have become the new currency:

“What are you willing to trade for it? Your values? Your morals? Your conscience? Your self-control? Just thinking out loud, lol.”

Though shared casually, her message struck a chord across social media, triggering widespread reactions from fans and followers who either agreed with her sentiment or offered their own perspectives.

Here’s what people had to say:

  • “Stop before becoming slaves to the algorithm; think again.”
  • “She’s absolutely RIGHT!!!!”
  • “I’ve gotten tons of crazy advice about gaining followers, go nude, start a fight, say something outrageous. But I want to grow with integrity.”
  • “World has changed. Clout pays bills now, and people with no real talent somehow have the biggest platforms.”
  • “Morals? We no send. As long as it makes us happy, our body, our choice.”

One comment, however, stirred controversy:

“Hunger go beat you and your good values.”

That remark sparked backlash from others who felt it completely missed the point of Omotola’s message.

At a time when shock value often brings instant attention, Omotola’s reminder serves as a sobering call for people, especially young creatives, to protect their values, even in the face of digital pressure.
