Asake’s meteoric rise in the global music scene continues with his latest achievement—his third album, Lungu Boy, has reached No. 2 on the US Apple Music chart, just hours after its release on August 9, 2024. This milestone places Asake alongside Burna Boy and Davido for the highest-charting Nigerian albums on the platform, tying the record set by Burna Boy’s I Told Them and Davido’s Timeless.
Lungu Boy features an impressive lineup of collaborations with international superstars, including Grammy-winning Wizkid, British rappers Central Cee and Stormzy, American icon Travis Scott, and Brazilian sensation Ludmila. The album’s success in the US is mirrored in the UK, where it secured the No. 1 spot on Apple Music’s UK chart, marking Asake’s third consecutive album to achieve this feat.

This latest success comes ahead of Asake’s highly anticipated ‘Lungu Boy’ tour, which will see him performing at renowned venues like the O2 Arena and Madison Square Garden. The latter will make him only the fourth Nigerian artist to headline the iconic New York venue.

Asake’s rapid rise to superstardom is marked by a string of hits and accolades. His debut album, Mr. Money With The Vibe, won Album of the Year at the 2023 Headies Awards, while his sophomore album, Work of Art, featured the smash hit “Lonely At The Top,” which set the record for the longest-charting song on the TurnTable Top 100. With Lungu Boy, Asake continues to solidify his status as an era-defining force in Afrobeats.
