Award-winning Afrobeats sensation Asake has officially kicked off his highly anticipated ‘Lungu Boy’ tour, starting with a sold-out performance at the Capital One Arena in Washington DC on August 16, 2024. The event marked the beginning of a tour that promises to be one of the most talked-about music events of the year.

The Washington DC show saw Asake deliver an electrifying performance, treating fans to a live rendition of his biggest hits, including tracks from his newly released third album, Lungu Boy. The energy in the arena was palpable as thousands of fans sang along to every word, underscoring Asake’s growing influence in the global music scene.

Asake’s Lungu Boy tour is set to make stops in six major U.S. cities, where he will headline at some of the country’s most iconic venues. These include the Toyota Center in Houston, the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, and the legendary Madison Square Garden in New York. Each stop is expected to draw huge crowds, reflecting the massive popularity of Asake’s music.

The tour follows the successful release of Asake’s third studio album, Lungu Boy, which features collaborations with international stars such as Grammy-winning Nigerian artist Wizkid, British rappers Central Cee and Stormzy, American rapper Travis Scott, and Brazilian singer Ludmilla. The album has been a massive success, setting new records on Spotify Nigeria with an astounding 18.9 million streams in its opening week, surpassing the previous record held by Davido’s Timeless.

Lungu Boy has not only dominated the charts in Nigeria but also made waves globally. The album set a new record for the biggest opening day global streams for a Nigerian album on Spotify, racking up 9.2 million streams. Its second track, “MMS,” further set a new standard by recording 870,577 streams on its first day in Nigeria, breaking the platform’s previous record.

With two albums in the top 10 for the biggest opening weeks on Spotify Nigeria, Asake continues to solidify his position as one of the most influential artists in Afrobeats today. His Lungu Boy tour is expected to be a monumental celebration of his music, talent, and the genre’s global appeal. As fans eagerly await the next stops on his tour, Asake’s star continues to rise, leaving an indelible mark on the music industry.
