Amorim Admits Uncertainty Over How Long It Will Take to Fix Manchester United

Red Devils’ Head Coach Reflects on Tough Times After 2-0 Loss to Wolves

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has admitted he has “no idea” how long it will take to turn the team’s fortunes around after their latest setback—a 2-0 defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The loss at Molineux marks United’s third consecutive defeat under Amorim, who took over from Erik ten Hag but has struggled to reverse the club’s decline. The Red Devils now sit in a dismal 14th place in the Premier League standings, with 22 points, alarmingly closer to the relegation zone than to a coveted top-four spot.

A Tough Start for Amorim

Since stepping into the Old Trafford hot seat, Amorim has overseen 10 matches across all competitions, with mixed results: 4 wins, 1 draw, and 5 losses. Distressingly, the team has suffered defeat in four of their last five league games. Amorim now holds the unwanted record of being the first United manager since Walter Crickmer in 1932 to lose five of his first 10 matches in charge.

When asked about the time needed to fix the team’s struggles, the Portuguese coach offered a candid response:

“I have no idea. No idea. Instead of trying to calculate how long it will take, we’re focusing on improving day by day. We analyze every match, make use of every minute on the training ground, and aim to pick up points because every point matters right now.”

Adapting to a New Style

Amorim acknowledged the challenges of implementing a new playing style amidst the team’s poor form.

“We’re completely changing the way we play, and it’s tough—for the players and the staff. It’s hard to pass on information, especially when the results aren’t there. It’s even harder for the players to believe in the process. But we have to keep going, focusing on the next game.”

Key Suspensions and Bigger Challenges Ahead

The defeat against Wolves was compounded by the dismissal of captain Bruno Fernandes, who will now miss their next match. Manuel Ugarte will also be unavailable after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season. These absences leave Amorim with a depleted squad ahead of a tough schedule, including a home game against in-form Newcastle United on December 30, followed by a daunting trip to league leaders Liverpool on January 6.

Despite the mounting challenges, Amorim remains focused on weathering the storm.

“At this moment, we just have to survive and win occasionally. Like I said on my first day here, bad moments are part of football. We must fight through them.”

United Fans Left Wondering

As the Red Devils grapple with their worst start in recent memory, fans are left questioning when—or if—the club will rediscover its winning ways. With time running out to salvage the season, all eyes are on Amorim and his ability to rally a team that appears to be stuck in survival mode.
