Singer Bloody Civilian summoned to court for allegedly defaming Helen Ukpabio

Nigerian singer Bloody Civilian has been officially summoned to court over allegations of defaming Helen Ukpabio, the founder of Liberty Gospel Church. A writ of summons from a high court in Calabar, Cross River State, surfaced online on February 13, 2025, ordering the singer to appear in court within 30 days.

The legal battle stems from Bloody Civilian’s statement in November 2024, where she alleged that Ukpabio “literally made people burn their children alive.” In response, Ukpabio’s legal team issued a strongly worded letter condemning the claim as “reckless, satanic, and libellous.”

Ukpabio demanded that Bloody Civilian retract her statement and issue a public apology on social media, as well as in 10 national and international newspapers within 72 hours. Additionally, she sought ₦200 billion in damages for the distress caused by the alleged defamation.

Following the initial lawsuit in 2024, Bloody Civilian reacted humorously on X (formerly Twitter), joking about taking up side jobs to raise the massive sum. However, she has yet to publicly respond to the latest court summons.
