Kanayo O. Kanayo Explains Why Many Women Are Unmarried in Their 30s

Veteran actor Kanayo O. Kanayo has shared his perspective on why some women remain unmarried as they age into their 30s. Speaking in an interview with News Central, the Nollywood star attributed this trend to choices made during their younger years, particularly in their 20s.

His View on Relationship Choices

Kanayo pointed out that many young women prioritize relationships with wealthy, often married older men over building connections with younger, prospective husbands. According to him:

“From 22, she goes on to 24, and maybe even if she quarrels with this guy, she gets the next guy. And before you know it, she turns 25, 26 unmarried because she refuses the advances of younger prospective husbands.”

He argued that as these women reach their late 20s or early 30s, societal expectations and pressures mount, making marriage prospects more challenging.

Societal Impact and “Emergency” State

The actor described a timeline that many women face, stating that by their early 30s, some shift from “enjoying life” to becoming prayerful about finding a husband.

“At 23, she’s a flex. At 28, she becomes a prayer point. After 33, she’s declared a state of emergency.”

Public Reactions

Kanayo’s remarks have sparked varied reactions online, with some agreeing with his perspective while others criticize it as overly simplistic and dismissive of individual circumstances.

This commentary adds to ongoing conversations about societal pressures, gender roles, and the evolving dynamics of relationships in contemporary Nigeria.
