Spotify Nigeria’s Most Streamed Artists Since Launch

Spotify Nigeria has become a hub for showcasing the musical dominance of Afrobeats artists, with its annual streaming data highlighting the industry’s biggest stars. Since its launch, four powerhouse names have led the pack, reflecting the ever-evolving tastes of Nigerian music lovers.

In 2021, Wizkid reigned supreme as Spotify Nigeria’s Most Streamed Artist. Riding the massive global success of “Made in Lagos” and its Grammy-nominated hit “Essence” featuring Tems, Wizkid set the bar high for streaming dominance.

The spotlight shifted in 2022, as Burna Boy claimed the top spot. Fresh off the release of “Love, Damini”, featuring hits like “Last Last” and “For My Hand” with Ed Sheeran, Burna Boy cemented his status as an international icon and Spotify heavyweight.

In 2023, Asake made history by claiming the title with his breakout success. Albums like “Mr. Money With The Vibe” and “Work of Art” delivered non-stop hits such as “Joha” and “Lonely at the Top”, earning him recognition as a leading force in Afrobeats.

Asake’s dominance continued into 2024, securing the top spot for a second consecutive year. His latest album, “Lungu Boy”, packed with features from Wizkid, Central Cee, and Anais Cardot, became an instant streaming sensation, solidifying his place at the pinnacle of Nigerian music.

This progression showcases the dynamism of the Nigerian music industry, with each artist pushing boundaries and achieving milestones that elevate Afrobeats on the global stage. Fans can look forward to even more competition and groundbreaking records in the years to come.
