Jaywon Apologizes to Ayra Starr Over Grammy Nomination Remarks

Nigerian singer Jaywon recently extended an apology to his fellow artist, Ayra Starr, following backlash over a social media post that some interpreted as a dig at her Grammy nomination absence. Although Ayra Starr had a successful year, she didn’t receive a Grammy nod, and soon after the nominations were revealed, Jaywon posted a photo of himself holding two Grammy awards.

Reacting to public criticism, Jaywon clarified that his post wasn’t intended to mock Ayra. He expressed admiration for her work, calling her one of Africa’s best female vocalists and emphasizing that he supports the growth of others in the industry. Jaywon, a voting member of the Recording Academy, reiterated that his intention is to elevate rather than bring down his colleagues.

In a message to Ayra Starr, he wrote:

“If you see Ayra Starr, tell her I’m sorry she wasn’t nominated for this year’s Grammys. I’m a huge fan of her music, and I believe she’s one of the best female vocalists Africa has.”

This apology comes amid ongoing feuds and competition among Nigerian music artists as they strive for global recognition.
