“I Became Fearless After Police Torture” – Mr. Macaroni Shares His #EndSARS Ordeal

Nigerian content creator and activist Adebowale Debo Adedayo, popularly known as Mr. Macaroni, recently shared a harrowing account of his arrest and police brutality in 2021, which he says transformed his outlook and made him fearless.

After the tragic events of October 20, 2020, when the #EndSARS protests at the Lekki Tollgate were met with violence, public outrage grew against reopening the tollgate. In February 2021, Mr. Macaroni joined a protest to oppose the reopening, defying the Lagos State government’s directives. His arrest that day changed him profoundly.

In a candid conversation with media personality Chude Jideonwo, Mr. Macaroni described the traumatic experience he faced in police custody.

“All the fear in me disappeared after that experience,” he recalled. “They stripped us naked and I was molested. They were happy, mentioning names, saying I was disturbing some people.”

According to him, the abuse he endured sparked a new purpose in his life. Mr. Macaroni now feels it’s his duty to use his platform not just for fame, but to stand up for those who cannot speak for themselves.

“I feel I should be involved because God has given me the platform today… so that I can use it to speak up for those that cannot speak for themselves,” he stated.

This experience has fueled his commitment to speaking out against oppression and fighting for justice, despite the personal risks.
