Manchester United SACK Erik ten Hag After Dismal Season Start – Ruud van Nistelrooy to Step In as Interim Coach

In a shocking turn of events, Manchester United has parted ways with manager Erik ten Hag after a rocky start to the 2024-25 season. The club confirmed his departure on Monday, following a disappointing 1-0 loss to West Ham, marking United’s fourth defeat in their first nine Premier League games. The loss pushed United down to 14th place in the table, leaving fans and stakeholders alarmed at the team’s poor form.

In their official statement, the Red Devils acknowledged Ten Hag’s contributions since joining the club in April 2022, notably leading the team to Carabao Cup and FA Cup victories in 2023 and 2024. “We are grateful to Erik for everything he has done during his time with us and wish him well for the future,” the statement read.

The decision reportedly followed pressure from major stakeholders, including INEOS, after United’s dismal European form – the team has yet to win a Europa League match this season, drawing with Twente, Porto, and Fenerbahce. Last season’s challenges also cast a shadow, as United placed eighth in the Premier League, their worst finish since 1990. Despite interviewing potential replacements like Ipswich boss Kieran McKenna and former Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel, United extended Ten Hag’s contract into 2024, a move that now comes with a hefty £7 million compensation fee.

To steady the ship, club legend Ruud van Nistelrooy has been appointed as interim manager. The ex-United striker, revered for his prolific scoring during his time at Old Trafford, will take charge for Wednesday’s Carabao Cup match against Leicester City. United fans are hopeful van Nistelrooy’s leadership can reignite the team’s form while the club searches for a permanent manager to rebuild its standing in the league.

The next few weeks will be crucial as Manchester United aims to salvage what remains of the season and restore the confidence of its loyal fanbase.
