Skales Sets the Record Straight: “Wizkid Never Helped Me”

Nigerian singer Skales recently made waves online by clarifying that his former label mate, Wizkid, never played a role in his musical journey, despite public assumptions. The “Shake Body” hitmaker openly acknowledged other artists who have significantly impacted his career, including Olamide, Timaya, and former record label boss Banky W.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Skales expressed his frustration with fans who often pit artists against each other, emphasizing that only a few people, such as Banky W and Burna Boy, supported him when he needed it most.

“Put some respect on my name… only Olamide, Timaya, and Banky W helped me. Respect to Burna too,” Skales posted. He continued by addressing the pressure fans put on artists, adding, “I’m a don with this music. I just want to make music and stay away from all that negative, toxic stuff.”

The conversation continued when a fan claimed that Wizkid “made” Skales. Skales responded directly, noting that while he respects Wizkid, Banky W deserves credit for shaping his career by signing both him and Wizkid to Empire Mates Entertainment (EME) back in the 2010s.

Skales’ journey at EME saw him grow from a young, budding artist to a household name, ultimately achieving stardom alongside Wizkid. However, his recent statements clarify the pivotal figures in his success, debunking popular assumptions about his relationship with Wizkid.
