Nollywood Mourns: Yoruba Actor Ayobami Olabiyi Passes Away

The Nigerian entertainment industry is once again in mourning as veteran Nollywood actor, Ayobami Olabiyi, has passed away. Known for his impactful roles in the Yoruba film industry, Olabiyi, fondly called Bobo B, sadly took his final bow on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, in Ibadan, Oyo State.

Olabiyi had been struggling with an illness that had left him bedridden and unable to speak. Reports indicate that he had been receiving treatment at the University College Hospital (UCH) in Ibadan, where he was admitted prior to his passing. His death is a tremendous loss to Nollywood, particularly the Yoruba sector where he was deeply respected.

In a statement issued by Bose Akinola, the chairman of the Oyo State chapter of TAMPAN (Theatre Arts and Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria), she confirmed the news, stating:

“We announce the death of our TAMPAN National General Secretary, Chief Alhaji Musadshir Ayobami Olabiyi ‘Bobo B.’ May God give entire TAMPAN members globally and his family the fortitude to bear the loss.”

A Legacy That Will Live On

Ayobami Olabiyi’s contributions to Nollywood—particularly his leadership and dedication within TAMPAN—cement his legacy as a key figure in Nigeria’s movie scene. He touched countless lives through his work both on and off the screen. The Yoruba film industry, where he carved out a strong presence, has lost a figure many saw as irreplaceable.

As Nollywood fans and colleagues remember his work, they also send thoughts and prayers to his family, wishing them strength in this difficult time.

Rest in peace, Bobo B. You will be sorely missed.

This tragedy is a stark reminder of the challenges many veteran actors face in the twilight of their careers, especially regarding health. As the industry grows, it’s vital that support systems are put in place to care for those who have spent their lives entertaining millions.
